Victorian pacer Fighter Command is on a Tasmanian path towards The Eureka, aiming for a spot in the world’s richest harness race. The four-year-old will target The Beautide in Hobart to secure his ticket into the $2.1 million TAB Eureka at Menangle. Last year, Fighter Command missed out on the TAB Eureka due to health issues, but now he is back in form and ready to compete.
Trainer Jess Tubbs revealed that Fighter Command will skip the Queensland races and focus on the Beautide in Tasmania. This strategic decision aligns with the horse’s eligibility for the Tasracing slot in the TAB Eureka, as he was bred and foaled in Tasmania. Fighter Command’s recent performances indicate his readiness for this challenge, with two wins and two fourth-place finishes in his last five races.
To prepare for the TAB Eureka, Fighter Command will compete in the Nevele R Stud Pace at Melton. Despite facing tough competition, including The Narcissist from the Emma Stewart and Clayton Tonkin stable, Fighter Command remains a strong contender. While Fighter Command heads towards Tasmania, Tubbs is considering sending her star mare Rakero Rebel to Queensland for the Golden Girl race at Albion Park.
Rakero Rebel, a potential threat to the favorite Eye Keep Smiling, will race at Melton to fine-tune her form before the big event. Another contender from Tubbs’ stable is Better Eclipse, whose past successes in Queensland make him a strong candidate for future races. With notable wins in the Sunshine Sprint and strong performances in the Brisbane Inter Dominion, Better Eclipse could be a valuable addition to the Queensland racing circuit.
Meanwhile, the Yabby Dams Trotters’ Free-For-All at Melton will see the return of Arcee Phoenix after a break. This six-year-old, coming off a significant win in the TAB Trot at Cambridge, is a top contender for the Inter Dominion title. With star Kiwi horses like Oscar Bonavena and Bet N Win also in the running, the competition promises to be fierce.
