With an impressive record of 5 wins in 5 races this season, Nijinsky secured 20 out of 35 first-place votes, accumulating a total of 322 points, establishing a significant lead over Twin B Joe Fresh at No. 2.
Among Nijinsky’s victories are the North America Cup elimination, the Somebeachsomewhere Stakes division, and an Ontario Sire Stakes division, amassing earnings of $455,155, the highest in North America. Meanwhile, Twin B Joe Fresh, a 4-year-old female pacer, boasts three wins and a second place in four starts, including recent triumphs in the Roses Are Red Stakes and the Betsy Ross Invitational, earning her four first-place votes.
Securing the third position in the rankings is Karl, a 3-year-old male trotter and previous Dan Patch Award recipient, undefeated in three races within the New Jersey Sire Stakes series, including the final. Karl received 11 first-place votes. Following closely in the top five are Its A Love Thing, winner of the Fan Hanover Stakes, and Highland Kismet, champion of the Goodtime Stakes.
The subsequent positions in the poll feature Jiggy Jog S, victor of the Cutler Memorial, Call Me Goo, winner of the Armbro Flight, and Hellabalou, who clinched the Borgata Pacing Series and Camluck Classic titles. Additionally, Captain’s Quarters, the North America Cup runner-up, and Ruthless Hanover, the Auger Memorial winner, round out the top ten rankings.
It’s important to note that the Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll does not determine the prestigious Horse of the Year title. The U.S. Harness Writers Association members are responsible for voting on various awards, including Dan Patch Award division winners, Trotter of the Year, Pacer of the Year, and ultimately, Horse of the Year.
These rankings are determined by votes from harness racing media representatives on a basis of 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1. The competitive landscape in harness racing continues to evolve, with talented contenders vying for top positions and industry recognition.
